About I.M.P.A.C.T.

Increase Minority Participation and
Awareness of Clinical Trials

Project I.M.P.A.C.T. is an initiative of the National Medical Association to increase the awareness, knowledge, and participation of African American physicians and consumers/patients in all aspects of biomedical research and clinical trials.

What We Want

  • The highest ethical standards for clinical researchers
  • The highest ethical treatment for all clinical trial participants
  • Federal legislation designed to protect the rights and welfare of all people who participate in any clinical research study
  • The inclusion of more minorities in clinical research

What We Do

  • Educate African American physicians and work to facilitate their participation in clinical and biomedical research
  • Develop and distribute culturally and contextually appropriate clinical trial materials
  • Maintain a database of minority physician investigators interested in participating in clinical trials
  • Educate consumers/patients about the clinical research process, and work to improve their interest in participation
  • Disseminate information regarding biomedical research involving African Americans to NMA members and other interested parties
  • Collaborate and partner with other organizations/entities to increase minority awareness and participation in biomedical research and clinical trials

Physician Education and Training Programs

  • Clinical Research in Brief (1 hour presentation)
  • Should You Become a Clinical Investigator? (1-2 hour presentation)
  • Cultural Competency Seminars (varies)
  • Clinical Research Overview and Training (half-day workshop)
  • Good Clinical Practices and Skills Building Course (2 days)
